New leader at Fred Hutch
We are pleased to announce Dr. Edus H. Warren as the new Program Head of Fred Hutch Global Oncology. Dr. Warren, who goes by the nickname "Hootie," is an immunotherapy researcher and oncologist who will steer Global Oncology in its efforts to conduct groundbreaking scientific cancer research in Uganda and other low- and middle-income countries, where the cancer burden is growing.

UCI celebrates 50 years
The Uganda Cancer Institute marks its 50th anniversary this year. To celebrate, there will be a Joint International Conference on Cancer and Palliative Care in Kampala August 24-25, 2017. Fred Hutch congratulates the UCI on their contributions to cancer research, care and training in East Africa and elsewhere.

Closing the breast cancer divide
Researchers from Fred Hutch and the Uganda Cancer Institute, Drs. Manoj Menon and Jackson Orem, respectively, are launching a clinical study in Uganda that could change how breast cancer in sub-Saharan Africa is diagnosed and treated. The $1.4 million study is funded by a grant from the GSK Africa NCD Open Lab.
