Dr. Thomas Uldrick named new deputy head of Global Oncology
Dr. Thomas Uldrick became the new deputy program head of Fred Hutch Global Oncology on Dec. 1, joining the program from the National Cancer Institute, where he was a senior clinician and clinical director of the HIV & AIDS Malignancy Branch at the Center for Cancer Research. "The addition of this new faculty position represents an important investment by Fred Hutch leadership in the growing Global Oncology program," said Dr. Edus H. "Hootie" Warren, head of Global Oncology. "Tom joins us at an exciting time and will help to propel our activities forward."
A hematologist and oncologist, Uldrick's research focuses on AIDS-related cancers, particularly Kaposi sarcoma and lymphoma, both of which are key interests of the Global Oncology program. Uldrick is also the principal investigator for a checkpoint inhibitor study that suggests immunotherapy appears safe for cancer patients with HIV.

Drs. Edus H. "Hootie" Warren and Warren Phipps received a five-year, $2.9 million grant from the National Cancer Institute's Provocative Questions Initiative to study immune responses to Kaposi sarcoma. The research potentially could lead to new treatments — including immunotherapies — for one of the most common cancers in sub-Saharan Africa. Read more »
