Joe Hutchinson throws a ceremonial first pitch at a Mariners game

Happy Birthday, Hutch!

Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center and the Seattle Mariners teamed up this month to celebrate what would have been the 100th birthday of our namesake, baseball great Fred “Hutch” Hutchinson. The festivities at T-Mobile Park included a ceremonial first pitch by Fred’s son Joe Hutchinson and an on-field gathering of 100 family members, patients, donors and scientists in honor of the hometown hero who died of cancer in 1964 — and the life-changing research that continues in his name.
