Welcome to the Reed Runners!

Our team is participating in the 2020 Defeat Multiple Myeloma 5K and 1 Mile Run/Walk on Sunday, June 28th. This is our second year raising money for an important cause, with this year in rememberance of my dad, Jerry Reed. My dad was able to participate last year but unfortunately in October of 2019, just a few months after his diagnosis, he passed away due to complications caused by multiple myeloma. Each member of this team plays a part in bringing myeloma treatment options to patients faster and helping fund research to find a cure for this cancer. Together, we are building community, supporting survivors, remembering loved ones lost, and funding research that is giving new hope to patients. We are committed, we are strong, and our impact can be enormous.

What is Multiple Myeloma?

Multiple Myeloma is a cancer of plasma cells found in bone marrow.  Normal plasma cells help the immune system fight disease, but when plasma cells become cancerous they grow out of control and can produce a tumor called a plasmacytoma.  If someone has more than one plasmacytoma, they have multiple myeloma.

Why support this event?

Defeat Multiple Myeloma’s mission is to raise awareness of multiple myeloma while supporting research that seeks to discover new treatments, improve the quality of life for myeloma patients, and ultimately find a cure for this devastating form of cancer. Funds from the 2020 Defeat Multiple Myeloma event will continue to support immunotherapy research and clinical trials at Fred Hutch which are using CAR-T cells and have shown very promising early results for patients.
