I AM COMMITTED TO SAVING LIVES FASTER.

I ride to honor those in my life who have survived cancer, and I ride to the memory of those in my life who cancer has taken from us.

I particularly ride to remember and honor my dad, an avid cyclist before cancer took him from us. Riding with him and his best friend (also lost to cancer) taught me to ride hard, but to never let that get in the way of helping others and just enjoying the friends and the ride. Riding with them was always about the journey, not the destination. "Ain't never had a bad day" was the motto of the bike club they started, and it was true to the way they lived and rode: if the day didn't turn out as you planned, then you got memories and stories to share over beer.

There are others gone from our lives due to cancer, too too many others. But there are increasing numbers of survivors, people who point to the many recent advances in cancer treatment as primary reasons they are with us to tell their stories.

The Fred Hutch Cancer Research Center is at the vanguard of devising, testing, and proving new and innovative treatments for cancer.

On August 10 I will set out with a few thousand of my friends to be the Obliteride, bicyclig, walking, and running to raising funds to help the Fred Hutch beat cancer. Please help in any way you can--100% of donated funds go directly to supporting reseach!
