Losing my parents to cancer made this very personal

Like most people, your parents are the most influencial people in your life. Mine were no different. They met in the Phillipines when they were 12 and were married for over 50 years. They raised four kids and enjoyed a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

In the summer of 2007, my mom was diagnosed with Pancreatic cancer. She struggled with abdomial pains for close to a year before she was finally diagnosed. She passed away on November 8, 2007.

My father was diagnosed with Mesothelioma on Father's Day 2015. Sadly, my father went through the same struggles to get a proper diagnosis. He died on July 17, 2015.

To lose both parents to cancer is unfathomable. The time is now to obliterate ALL cancers. No family should experience what our family went through. Over my lifetime, I have lost friends, colleagues, and mentors to cancer. This needs to stop now.

Research advances knowledge and that’s the path to obliterating cancer. For that reason, I’m going ALL IN to accelerate research at Fred Hutch.

Sadly, half of all men and one third of all women in the U.S. will get cancer in their lifetime.

We need that to stop.

More than 300 labs and projects are working hard to save the lives of people all over the world by conducting innovative, high-impact cancer research. I’m committed to supporting these labs so they can continue saving lives and can do so faster. Please join me in this fight.

It’s time for us to put cancer in its place. Behind us.

Ride with me, donate to my ride, and tell others about Obliteride.
