Let's Cure Cancer Faster

Research advances knowledge and that's the path to Obliterating cancer.

18 years ago I was in the midst of treatment for testicular cancer. I benefited from a clinical trial that saved my life, but the high dosages of chemo that were required caused genetic damage. So eight years ago at this time, having been diagnosed with leukemia, I underwent a stem cell transplant - a life-saving, near-miraculous treatment developed right here at Fred Hutch in Seattle by Nobel winning researcher E. Donnall Thomas. Back 18 years ago, my sons were in midddle school, and I had no expectation of seeing them graduate high school, or college, or graduate school, or get married, or start beautiful families of their own, including our now-3 grandchildren. But here I am, and in good health.

Sadly, half of all men and one third of all women in the U.S. will get cancer in their lifetimes. And many will get it as children. Hopefully all will receive the same kind of wonderful care and treatment of the Hutch's affiliate, the Seattle Cancer Care Alliance, that I received. But ALL around the world will benefit from research being done every day at the Hutch.

More than 300 Fred Hutch labs and projects are working hard to save the lives of people all over the world by conducting innovative, high-impact cancer research at a time of declining federal funding. I'm committed to supporting these labs so they can continue saving lives and can do so faster. Please join me in this fight.

On Saturday, August 11, my wife Susan and I, along with our team of "Equipe Rouge," are signed up for the sixth year in a row to ride a slow but steady 50 miles, rain or shine, to do what we can to be part of the fight.

Please donate to our ride, and help find cures for cancer faster.
