I've been working on a passion project on and off the last few months that I'm calling the Snoqualmie Seven Summits or #s7s for short. It's a hiking / trail running challenge featuring my favorite seven summit routes between Snoqualmie Pass and Snoqualmie Falls along the I90 corridor. Typically hiking one of them is a big day - but for this challenge I'm planning on running all seven in a single push. I'll start at the Granite Mountain Trailhead the morning of August 7th and travel this route (https://www.strava.com/routes/28792501) covering more than 76 miles and 25,000 feet of gain hopefully finishing sometime Saturday evening. Along the way I'll stand on top of Kaleetan Peak, Granite Mountain, Mount Defiance, McClellan Butte, Mailbox Peak, Mount Teneriffe, and Mount Si - the Snoqualmie Seven Summits.
During and after the COVID-19 Pandemic, we will all change the way we play. Likely local experiences will become more important and solo / small group outings will replace some of the mass participation events of the past. In addition, during these uncertain times we are all looking for ways to feed our spirit and remind us that there is incredible light in the midst of the darkness. In addition to running this challenge to help Fred Hutch stop cancer and COVID-19 I am running it to encourage people to explore the the amazing mountain peaks that are so accessible in this unique part of the world and to challenge themselves to spend more time standing on top of mountains as an alternative to past activities.
And I'd love to have your support!
I’ve accepted this challenge because now, more than ever, the world needs Fred Hutch’s fearless science. The Hutch has made some of the world’s most important medical advances — from developing bone marrow transplantation as a cure for leukemia, to pioneering powerful therapies that harness the immune system to eliminate cancer, to creating advanced diagnostic tools that detect cancer in its earliest and most treatable stages.
And today, as we face the new threat of COVID-19, the Hutch’s virologists and infectious disease experts are confronting this global crisis with their hallmark creativity, collaboration, and unshakable focus. By expanding testing capacity and developing treatments and vaccines, these extraordinary scientists are committed to ending this pandemic.
Private contributions from supporters like you fuel this leading-edge research. Every dollar you give this year will power Fred Hutch’s frontline cancer research and advance real-time work on test, treatments, and vaccines for COVID-19.
Please donate today and join me in putting cancer and COVID-19 in their place: behind us.
