Several members of my family as well as dear friends have been affected by cancer. Half of all men and one third of all women in the U.S. will get cancer in their lifetime. It is an agnostic disease that strikes young and old, rich and poor, strong and weak alike. We cannot prepare or train for its onslaught. It’s victims undergo excruciating treatments which bring them perilously close to their own demise.
Yet many of these same patients emerge as healthy as ever, or at least in remission for long periods of time. They continue their productive lives and active lifestyles due to the tireless efforts of researchers, scientists, doctors, nurses, and donors.
I’m committing to ride my bike 25 miles on August 11th in Seattle because I believe research is the fastest path to curing cancer. The Seattle Cancer Care Alliance (https://www.seattlecca.org/). / Fred Hutch are leading the way to ground-breaking research into curing various forms of cancer.
