There are many reasons to participate in this year's 50 mile Oblideride. Personally, I reflect on the reason I joined three years ago - my mentor teacher Bonnie Powers.
December 2016 Bonnie lost her life due to ovarian cancer. She was a master at her craft with years of teaching ahead of her. She had tremendous impact and influence on the community at McClure Middle School in the Seattle Public School District. We looked to her as a mentor and an inspiration. She was a life-long learner passionately committed to improving the lives of her students.
This is why I'm riding 50 miles with the CureCyclists team in Obliteride on August 10th - to honor Bonnie and the gift her life was, and to ensure the future promises improved outcomes for people like her. Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center is providing pioneering and promising cancer research. Obliteride raises important funds so Fred Hutch can continue making breakthroughs in cancer prevention, diagnostics, and treatment.
No donation is too small. Please consider donating to my ride, and join me in this effort to put cancer in its place, behind us.
