Never did we think we were going to be personally affected by the C word... Especially not this soon.
At the age of 24, our oldest daughter/sister was diagnosed with Stage 2 colon cancer. 24? colon cancer? How? The answer was Lynch Syndrome.
Lynch Syndrome is an inherited genetic mutation associated with a higher risk of certain types of cancer (colon cancer & endometrial being the highest). All three girls and John are positive for this genetic mutation.
Shortly after, cancer was detected in John.
After a couple bumpy years, we are proud to say our family is cancer free and we plan to keep it that way with the help of regular testing.
We are riding together and telling our story to raise awareness of Lynch Syndrome and to support Fred Hutch in their journey of turning discoveries into cures.
