Just over two weeks ago, I learned that one of my best friends, Matt (photo left), was diagnosed with Stage-4 Pancreatic Cancer. He’s only 45 and a model of good health, but cancer set its eye on him. Everyone who knows this wonderful guy is of course devastated and searching for ways to help.
Matt and I were supposed to ride the RSVP (cycle ride from Seattle to Vancouver BC) together this coming weekend, but in July, he developed a back pain and had to cancel. We later learned that pain was just a side effect of the cancer. I’m still going to ride – in Matt’s Honor and to raise money for Fred Hutch Cancer Research.
If you could give in Matt's honor, click "GIVE NOW". I know he'd be grateful. Even if you could just send him some heathy thoughts ;-)
The cover photo is from my last ride with Matt (left) and Eric (right) - May 29th (last Memorial Day). We rode 22 miles around Lake Sammamish, averaged 18+ mph. Never would have guessed Matt had cancer.
My back-story...
I lost my mother to Pancreatic cancer when she was just 68 and my father to kidney cancer when he was only 50. Cancer also tried to take my niece when she was only two. Fortunately, she beat it.
So yeah, I’ve got a beef with cancer. I’ve had enough of the suffering it’s caused my loved ones. I’m hoping that Fred Hutch and similar research will continue to help others from going through similar pain.
